"Word of mouth" can be a good option. I have a good friend who is an electrician in the Seattle area. He may be too busy. If not I think you would be fortunate to be able to hire him. You can email me with/for more information. In hiring any contractor you can rely on reputation and how you relate to that particular contractor.

Do yourself a favor, call your local Wiring Inspector and ask him for a few names of companies that do good work, and that have few re-inspections, or complaints.
He should be more than happy to provide some.
From those, get prices, call their references, and talk to neighbors.
Go with your gut feelings, and don’t be affraid to ask questions about how they are going to accomplish the tasks at hand.

Look for the union logo. They are all experienced. No logo, you take your chances. I worked for Steele, Harris, EC, Sasco, all are good employers.
