I have two options (after searching local market) Sony DSC-W210(12.2 MP) – http://www.sony.co.in/product/dsc-w210 (Approx. Indian Rupees 11K) or Samsung PL51 (10.2 MP) (Indian Rupees 8800) detail – http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=cameracamcorder&type=digitalcamera&subtype=plseries&model_cd=EC-PL51ZZBPBIN.
As I know Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lense is much better than Sony Lens based on my own experience. So I am not looking for Sony cameras with Sony Lens. I have no idea about Samsung product but the camera looks good.
Please suggest me which one to buy or if you have better experience with any other model please tell me.
Please reply fast as I have to buy one very early. Thanks in Advance.
I compared both with Sony W55 (my friends’ camera), which is the best (in this category) but unfortunately unavailable now. I found that Sony Quanlity is not upto the mark. So I purchased Samsung PL51 yesterday.
Go for the Sony. The lens makes a notable difference in the sharpness and contrast of the picture. Yes, you are hampered by the lousy proprietary Memory Stick, but they are getting cheaper and you can even buy micro-SD to MSPD converter sticks very inexpensively.
I have an old 4MP Sony with a Zeiss lens and its pictures still rival 10MP P/S cameras at print sizes less than or equal to 8×10.
You also want to look for shutter lag. My old Sony turns on in less than 2 seconds and has almost no shutter lag so I don’t miss shots that require quick reaction. Of course for critical shooting, nothing beats a DSLR, but a slow camera is very frustrating when shooting subjects that change quickly such as people shots.
