What type of career with marketing degree?

I graduated 3 years ago with a bachelors degree in marketing. I’ve worked the last 3 years mainly as a technical writer/graphic artist, however I want to use my degree and start a career as a marketer.

Where can I start with all of this…it’s very hard to get a job without much specific experience. If there are any keywords I may want to search for plz let me know that as well, thanks!

My main job skills are technical abilities such as a huge variety of software packages that I am an expert with. Very creative, strong writer and have a great marketing sense (if any of this helps you give me a better idea of what to search for).

There are entry level marketing jobs. You are not going to get rich but it is a foot in the door and will give you the experience you seem to be seeking. Try looking on monster or something. Get yourself a resume that focuses on your soft skills and use that when applying.

I start checking with stores around your area. Do some freelancing & create flyers, posters, etc at a very competitive prices. This can give you some immediate, hands on experience which you can put on your resume for more serious marketing positions than "entry level".

Who knows – You might like working on your own so much, that you’ll forget about the corporate world ? Food for thought.

DO NOT do survey interviewer jobs – unless you can be the coder and actually code the survey on the computer. Interviewing is a dead end job with very low pay. I did that for a year and hated it.

Kantar Operations is a very good marketing company. They do the surveys & market research for Millward Brown and a few other companies in that group.

Work for a company that will pay you to get your Master’s Degree from a reputable school. Once you have your Master’s your B School should help you get interviews with decent companies.
