Internet Explorer using 1.5 GIGABYTES of RAM!?!?!?

I know a bit about computers, not a geek, but still, I keep my computer running fast (two minute startup, from turning it on to being fully logged in), and know some tricks. But I have a problem. A problem I can’t sem to fix. Ever so often, my Internet Explorer will slow down dramatically. It crawls, hangs, you name it. So, after being fed up, I open up my Task Manager to a sight of horror and disgust. "iexplore.exe", Internet Explorer, is using 1.5 gigabytes of RAM, 3/4 of what I’ve got. Yes, that’s right, 1,495,556 kilobytes of RAM. At that point, I was speechless. Why in the world would Internet Explorer need a RIDICULOUS amount of RAM? It makes absolutely no sense. None. I ask you, what in God’s name would cause my beloved Internet Explorer, my gateway to the world, consume such a visceral amount of RAM? WHAT IS THIS MONSTER? AND HOW MUST I DESTROY IT!?!?!?
The RAM keeps growing, that’s the problem. It will not stop until it reaches the redline, (1.5 Gigs), and then it locks up.

How does Firefox run on your computer? I find firefox runs a lot faster on my computer than IE and has never taken up more than 450,000 KB of RAM
